Christie Harmon is a native Huntsvillian, and has served in many volunteer capacities within the community, as well as her church, sorority, and her childrens’ school. Christie is an advocate for Childhood Cancer Awareness, after being introduced to pediatric cancer when her youngest child,
Samuel, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2015. Sam was treated at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Christie has served the hospital as a member of their Parents Advisory Council, Quality of Life Steering Council, Day of Remembrance program, Stay in Touch program for grieving families, and as a panelist for several St Jude events. She and her family saw a need for research funding, as only 4% of federal funding goes to researching childhood cancers. The Isaiah 41:10 Foundation was established in Sam’s memory to bring awareness to the devastation of childhood cancer, to raise money for its research, and to support local families in treatment for childhood cancer. The foundation partners with St Jude and its local Huntsville affiliate clinic. In addition, the foundation has brought the hope and encouragement of Jesus to families walking through childhood cancer by publishing a series of children’s books. With the help of a great board and committee, the Isaiah 41:10 Foundation has raised and distributed over $625,000 since 2019.
