Martha is a very active member of our community, and she is more than passionate about the fight against cancer. While running her sewing business, Martha Pullen Company, she and her customers from all over the world raised more than $80,000 for several cancer organizations. For her, the fight against cancer became personal when her granddaughter, Cecil Hammett, was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma while a junior in high school. “The most horrid day of my life was when the physician said to my sixteen-year granddaughter, ‘Cecil, you have cancer.’ It became worse when we found out that it had only a 70 percent success rate to be cured. We quickly found out that if Cecil had been diagnosed ten years before, there would have been a zero chance of remission.” Martha said she truly appreciates the support of the community for the American Cancer Society’s life-saving mission and is proud to be the chair for the 2024 Summer Soiree.
